The art contest held this past summer in East Central Regional Library branches was unique.
Kids Design Glass Art invited kids ages 4 to 10 to enter for a chance to have their drawing turned into a glass sculpture by local glassblower Anthony Michaud-Scorza.
The 14 branch libraries received more than 150 entries. One drawing from each branch was chosen, and the winners will have their drawings turned into glass sculptures this fall.
Sydney Barnick was the winner at the Chisago Lakes branch, and Kirsten Swanson at Wyoming.
The winners will have their pictures taken with their individual glass sculptures and will be invited to the glassblower’s studio to observe the art of glassblowing. A brochure including the drawings and the glass designs will also be produced.
In February 1014 the 14 sculptures will travel to each library branch for display, and Michaud-Scorza will give a presentation on glassblowing.
The event is funded through Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
