Attendance at the Rockin’ for Relief concert at Faith Lutheran Church next Friday is free.
But if you could bring a backpack and some shoes, that would be great.
Faith is hosting the free concert to raise awareness for an upcoming mission trip to Haiti and to accept donations.
The concert, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, will feature an eclectic mix of semi-professional and amateur musicians from the Forest Lake area, presenting vocal and instrumental songs in a variety of styles. After the concert, guests are welcome to stay for refreshments.
Haiti is the poorest nation in the world, with over 80 percent unemployment. The Faith group will be visiting the poorest of the poor, people who literally have no possessions.
The purpose of the mission trip is to provide relief, hope and dignity to poor, elderly and homeless people.
When they leave for Haiti on Oct. 14, each Faith traveler will carry 50 pounds of school supplies, clothing, and medical supplies.
Most needed are backpacks and children’s shoes: athletic, crocs or flip flops, new or almost new, to fit children ages 6 to 12.
The mission trip is organized by Reiser Relief, working with Healing Haiti. The group will also distribute Feed My Starving Children food packets, deliver fresh water, and care for sick and dying children. The school supplies will be delivered directly to two schools, Terre Promise and Reiser Heights.
Reiser Relief t-shirts and Haitian jewelry will be available for sale after the concert.
If you can’t attend the concert, you can still donate shoes and backpacks, and maybe tuck some other school supplies inside the shoes. Just drop them off at the church between now and October 10.
Faith Lutheran Church is located at 886 North Shore Drive in Forest Lake.
