Sept. 26 dinner and auction will support Meals on Wheels
The 25th annual Noodlin’ it up for Parmly dinner will be held at Scandia’s Elim Lutheran Church from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. This year’s lasagna dinner and Scandinavian auction will help support South Chisago County Meals on Wheels. As with many social programs, Meals on Wheels has experienced a drastic decline in local, state and federal funding.
South Chisago County Meals on Wheels is in its 36th year of providing meals to community members age 60 or over who have little or no support at their home on a consistent basis, and to those under age 60 who are severely physically handicapped or terminally ill. The average number of meals in 2013 is ahead of 2012, at an average of 1,000 meals per month compared to 786. With over 250 volunteers, the program delivers in-home meals to individuals Monday through Friday.
The South Chisago County Meals on Wheels program operates from the Ecumen Parmly LifePointes campus in Chisago City. Meals are prepared, packaged and distributed by volunteers to a 10-mile radius including Stacy, Wyoming, Chisago City, Lindstrom, Center City and Shafer. To refer those who could benefit from the program, contact coordinator Jackie Law at 651-257-0580.
“Noodlin’ it Up” tickets will be sold at the door for $9 for those 12 and over and $4 for ages 3-11. Advance tickets, costing $8 for those 12 and up, are available locally at Elim Lutheran Church, Security State Bank of Marine in Forest Lake and Scandia, and Central Bank in Forest Lake.
Auction tickets are available the day of the event with winners drawn at 6:30 p.m.
