Honors for Hegseth

Forest Lake native Pete Hegseth was among select Minnesota veterans of recent wars honored with the Minnesota Humanities Center’s 25 Veterans’ Voices Award on Sept. 11 in St. Paul. Above, he is shown at the event with state Rep. Bob Dettmer of Forest Lake. Hegseth, a U.S. Army veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, advocates on behalf of veterans as executive director of Concerned Veterans of America. This Bronze Star recipient lives in Marine on St. Croix. Through the awards program, The Humanities Center launched a long-term, statewide program aimed at creating new opportunities for veterans to add their voices to public discussions. More than 60,000 Minnesotans have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and there are more than 381,000 veterans of all wars residing in Minnesota. (Photo submitted)
