Tory John Welsh has been awarded the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout award. The ceremony was held Aug. 11 at the University of Minnesota’s Cedar Creek Ecosystem Reserve near East Bethel.
A member of Troop 414 in Columbus, Welsh is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain this rank, according to Scoutmaster Pat Kenneally.
Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project. Welsh chose to establish an arboretum at Century Junior High in Forest Lake.
A ninth-grader at Century, Welsh is active in 4-H, band and chorus and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
He is also an Honors Program graduate of the Boy Scouts of America.
Welsh is the son of Bob and Jan Welsh of Cedar. He is the grandson of Lester and Jean Orr of Waukon, Iowa and Larry and Sara Welsh of Bird Island, Minn.
