All grades in Forest Lake Area Schools are off Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18, because of the state convention of the teachers union Education Minnesota.

Szyplinski to perform at senior dance

Tip a cop for Special Olympics

Members of the Forest Lake Police Department will help serve meals and clear tables from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Famous Dave’s, 43 SW 19th St. All tips received by law enforcement will be donated to Special Olympics.

Lakes Area Women in Business to meet

Driver safety education

AARP driver safety classes for ages 50 and up will be held at the Forest Lake Senior Center, 767 SW 4th Street. The four-hour refresher class will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Oct. 24. The eight-hour class, for drivers who have never taken driver safety, will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 30 and 31 (both classes required). $17 to $19. UnScary Halloween at ECFE

Looking for non-spooky Halloween fun for children ages 1 to 5? Don a friendly costume and come to the UnScary Halloween party from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the CLC, 200 SW 4th St. Activities, games, and each child leaves with a book. A craft and bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1250 South Shore Drive. Girl Scout Troops 50423 and 51251 will sell caramel rolls and lunch at an affordable price.

Halloween concert at FLAHS

Cantorei Choir, Sinfonia Orchestra and Symphonic Winds will give a free “Halloween Hauntcert” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the high school gymnasium, 6101 Scandia Trail N. Afterwards, kids are invited to try out instruments. Costumes encouraged.

Author of anti-bullying bill to speak

A community gathering on proposed legislation to prevent bullying will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Drive. The keynote speaker will be District 61 Senator Scott Dibble (DFL), co-author with Jim Davine of the Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools Act.
