Forest Lake traveled to the Section 7AA True Team Meet at Coon Rapids over the weekend, where it took sixth place of eight teams.
The Rangers finished with 944 points, just behind Champlin Park, which had 957.5 points. Blaine took first with 1,276.5, followed by Anoka (1,267.5) and Duluth East (1,046.5).
Forest Lake earned big points when eighth-grader Mackenzie Klein captured first place of 32 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.49, a personal best by nearly two-tenths of a second. Sophomore Emma Dolby (27.62), junior Josephine Hudoba (27.84) and ninth-grader Emma Nelson also earned points for the Rangers in the sprint event, taking 10th, 12th and 14th place, respectively.
Junior Rachel Chatwin finished strong in the 100-yard freestyle with a fourth-place finish in 57.91, followed closely in fifth place by Klein (58.63). Hudoba took 11th in 1:00.94.
Chatwin also came up big in the 100-yard breaststroke with another fourth-place finish in 1:14.01. Dolby took eighth in the event in 1:17.45, a personal best this season for the junior.
Sophomore Andrea Dunrud helped lead the Rangers in points by taking fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:54.89. Junior Kristin Stomberg took 12th place in 6:07.78. The two also finished strong in the 200-yard freestyle with Dunrud finishing in sixth place with a time of 2:09.80, less than a six-tenths of a second out of fourth place. Stomberg took eighth with a time of 2:12.65.
Junior Rocci Wohlk took 13th place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:35.76, and 16th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.97). Junior Jessica Walker finished 11th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.49.
On the relay side, the foursome of ninth-grader Emma Nelson, Dolby, Klein and Chatwin stood out in the 200-yard freestyle, taking second place in 1:48.73 for 62 team points. Junior Stephanie Brenk, Stomberg, Dunrud and Hudoba placed 11th in the event in 1:53.32.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Dunrud, Stomberg, Klein and Chatwin placed fifth in 3:58.77, just over a second out of fourth place. Hudoba, Walker, Nelson and Wohlk took 10th in 4:06.25.
Walker, Dolby, Wohlk and senior Alexis Cogar were the top finishers for Forest Lake in the 200-yard medley relay, taking 11th in 2:08.55.
Maddi Gemuenden represented the Ranger diving team well. The senior placed sixth with 290.05 points. Ninth-grader Danielle Sardeson and senior Tina Witzel took 18th and 19th of 29, respectively.
Last Tuesday the Rangers faced a tough Roseville squad on the road and fell 101-85.
The Rangers hosted Stillwater on Tuesday and next travel to Woodbury for a 6 p.m. meet on Thursday, Oct. 24 to close their regular season.
