Veterans Day activities

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11. The following activities in Forest Lake will be held in observance of the holiday.


Forest Lake High School Veterans Day Program, 10:15 a.m.

Hosted in the gym at 6101 Scandia Trail N. Guest speaker is State Rep. Bob Dettmer, a veteran and former FLHS teacher and coach. Limited seating is available for veterans. Those interested in attending, should RSVP to Wendy at 651-982-8401.


Community Veterans Day Program, 6 p.m.

Hosted at Forest Lake American Legion Post 225, 355 W. Broadway Ave., with VFW Post 4210 Forest Lake. Keynote speaker will be Col. Greg Thingvold who was born and raised in Minnesota and resides in Stillwater.

Col. Thingvold works for the Minnesota National Guard as the director of plans operations and training (J-3) for the Joint Force Headquarters. He also serves as the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade Commander. Some of his previous military assignments include director of personnel for Joint Force Headquarters, and Battalion Commander of 2-147th Air Assault Battalion. He led this battalion comprised of 435 soldiers with 30 UH-60 helicopters during a year-long combat deployment to Iraq in 2007-08.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal.
