Huskies celebrate gymnasium groundbreaking

North Lakes Academy recently broke ground on a gymnasium at its upper-school campus in Forest Lake. The activity center is the culmination of an expansion project that added four classrooms, a science suite, a student commons area and an administration suite to the charter school’s existing space at 308 SW 15th St.

The 8,800-square-foot space, expected to be finished in the spring, will allow North Lakes to expand its physical education program, host athletic events in a regulation-size gym, and hold fine arts performances and graduation in its own venue.

Charter schools may not own buildings; the activity center is being constructed by McCullough Properties specifically for lease to the school.

Work proceeds on the gymnasium at North Lakes Academy.
