The Scandia City Council is looking for more volunteers to serve on the City’s Park and Recreation Committee, Planning Commission and Wastewater Advisory Committee.
The terms of two Park and Recreation Committee members, one Planning Commission member and one Anderson/Erickson representative on the Wastewater Advisory Committee will expire February 1, 2014. Appointments will be made for five year terms ending Feb. 1, 2019.
The five-member Park and Recreation Committee, which meets the first Monday of each month, advises the City Council on all matters relating to parks and recreation activities and represents the City in events such as Taco Daze and Vinterfest.
The five-member Planning Commission meets the first Tuesday of each month. This group advises the City Council on all matters related to planning and zoning, including but not limited to variances, subdivisions, conditional use permits, and the comprehensive plan. Members receive a small stipend to cover expenses.
The Wastewater Advisory Committee meets as needed, typically on a quarterly basis, to advise the City Council on the city’s wastewater systems. Topics include long- and short-range planning for operations, maintenance, improvement, expansion and financing. The seven-member committee has two representatives from each of the three systems (Bliss, Anderson/Erickson, and Uptown), plus one Council representative. The current opening will be filled by a user on the Anderson/Erickson system, located on the east side of Big Marine Lake along Norell Ave. and 188th St.
Application forms are available at the city office and at www.ci.scandia.mn.us. Applications are due by noon on Friday, Dec. 20. The City Council will interview applicants in January.
