Local Voice of Democracy winner chosen by VFW

Kaylee McCollough will advance to district level in the VFW Voice of Democracy essay competition.

A senior at Forest Lake High School, McCollough wrote the top essay for the 2013-2014 theme, “Why I’m Optimistic about our Nation’s Future.”

The essays are judged for originality, content and delivery. After advancing through local, district and state contests, the national winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship.

Mitchell Miers, a junior, and Allison Steenblock, a senior, took second and third place in Forest Lake.
