Jill Teetzel, East Bethel, is the new city administrator in Wyoming…Longtime Washington County judge David Doyscher of Forest Lake will soon leave for Kosovo, where he will work as a judge for the United Nations…Forest Lake High School graduate Courtland Nelson is the DNR’s choice for state parks and recreation director…More than 750 Wyoming Township residents attended a special meeting regarding Chisago City’s bid to annex 17 square miles of the township…In sports, the future of the Maroon and Gold Arena is up in the air. The school board held a special meeting to discuss options for the outdated hockey facility.

20 years ago – January 1994

The association that handled Forest Lake’s Centennial celebration in 1993 closed the year showing a profit of nearly $18,000. Those funds will be donated towards as many as 70 community banners to be displayed throughout the year…Local winter activities in late January include the Golden Rainbow Ice Fishing Contest, the International 500 Snowmobile Race, the Forest Lake Police Radar Snowmobile Rally and the Frosty Open ice golf tournament…The Times reports receiving 269 Open Forum submissions in 1993…District Memorial Hospital board members looked for consensus between themselves, those serving on municipal governing boards, and community members as the board considered seeking affiliation with a larger health care provider…In sports, the fourth-ranked Ranger boys basketball team improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

30 years ago – January 1984

A year in review article summed up 1983 in two words: bad weather. The year included three major snowstorms, two destructive windstorms and a record blast of cold air…Country Home Bakery opened in the new Town Square building downtown…Stacy Girl Scouts are selling cookies on the 50th anniversary of the popular campaign. Cost is $2 per box…The average salary of District 831 teachers will jump 8.51 percent this school year and 9.11 percent next. The average then will be $27,170…In sports, the Ranger girls ski team, in its first year of existence, is ranked 10th in the state. Kris Copham has been leading the way for coach Kevin Rivard’s squad.

40 years ago – January 1974

The Times’ opinion page reports that a record 101 Open Forum letters were received in 1973…Images of downtown Forest Lake include businesses such as Martin’s in the Forest, Bud’s Red Owl, Listen Here record shop, Der Lach Haus and Village Inn Cafe…Robert Houle will begin his second stint as Forest Lake’s city administrator…Del Branum was elected chief of the Forest Lake Volunteer Fire Department…About 75 people left Forest Lake in buses and headed to St. Paul to protest abortion on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling…The fuel shortage heightened as Del’s Mobil Service ran out of gas three days before the next shipment…Eighteen snowmobiles stolen in Forest Lake in a 16-day period were recovered…In sports, Forest Lake High School recently unveiled a PomPom dance line.
