Fairview adopts visiting restrictions to curb flu

In an effort to curb the spread of influenza, Fairview Health Services last week imposed restrictions on visitors to its six Minnesota hospitals, including Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming. Visitors will be screened, and those with flu-like symptoms or exposure to others with those symptoms will not be allowed to visit patients. Also, visitors younger than 5 will not be allowed. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis for compassionate reasons.

The temporary policies took effect Thursday following a declaration by the Minnesota Department of Health that influenza is widespread in the state. The restrictions will last the duration of the flu season.
