Two-thirds of the Forest Lake DECA students who competed at the district level qualified to advance to the state competition level.

Of 31 students competing, 21 placed in the top 10 for at least one event. Their names and events appear in the chart below.

Advisors are Stephanie Lourey and Kristin Nellis.

Forest Lake residents Don and Gail Theisen and their daughter Hannah were judges at the conference.

The District 4 Career Development Conference took place at the Plymouth Crowne Plaza Hotel on Jan. 12 and 13.

A record 634 students represented 12 DECA high school chapters from Andover, Anoka, Champlin Park, Chisago Lakes, Coon Rapids, Elk River, Forest Lake, Irondale, Maple Grove, Mounds View, Rogers, and Totino Grace.

DECA is a business and marketing club for high school students. Each DECA member competed in three or four events focusing on specific topics in business and marketing.  These events are meant to further development skills in leadership, management skills, civic consciousness, job responsibility, motivation to excel, good work habits, critical thinking and problem solving.

The state competition will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis on March 2-4.
