Spanish immersion to expand to kindergarten in two schools

District 831 will expand its partial Spanish immersion program to kindergartners at Lino Lakes and Forest View elementary schools next school year. The program currently begins in first grade. But with all-day, every-day kindergarten now offered, the district is finding it easier to offer Spanish instruction for its youngest students.

“Previously, scheduling and staffing concerns made the addition of a Spanish Immersion program for kindergarten unfeasible,” a district press release said.

Students will be able to enter the language program either in kindergarten or first grade. After the 2014-15 school year, they will have to begin in kindergarten and will not have the option to start in first grade.
