American Legion Post 225, the Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion invite high school juniors to apply for Legion Boys & Girls State.
The deadline is Monday, Feb. 17.
Each year these groups from the Forest Lake Legion sponsor delegates from this area to learn about local and state government in a practical experiential training program.
They are seeking a few junior boys and girls who exhibit the qualities of leadership, good character, scholarship, citizenship and interest in a citizenship training program.
Last June the Legion sent three boys and four girls as delegates from Forest Lake.
This year the young men chosen will attend Boys State from June 15 to June 21 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
The young women will attend the same week at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
Students wishing to be considered should contact Mr. Gjerning at Forest Lake High School, Mr. Stewart at North Lakes Academy or, for home schoolers, Ron Miller at 651-464-5549.
Each candidate should write a page or two highlighting his or her qualifications, with phone number and e-mail address.
Interviews will begin Tuesday evening, Feb. 18.
Last year’s delegates were Garret Swanson (FLHS), Branden Flasch (NLA), Michael “Ty” Nosser (NLA), Danielle Rybak (FLHS), Mackenzie Hale (NLA), Sadie Thornberg (NLA) and Abbey Millerbernd (NLA).
Students who attended in the past have said the experience enriched them in many ways, including college scholarship offers.
