Bluejackets bounce Ranger wrestlers

The Forest Lake wrestlers ended the team portion of their season Friday after falling to second-seeded Cambridge-Isanti, 62-9, at the Section 7AAA team championships in St. Francis.

The Bluejackets went on to defeat St. Francis before losing 32-25 to the top seed, St. Michael-Albertville.

The Rangers finished 8-10 in dual meets this season and 4-4 in the Suburban East Conference, good for sixth place. Hastings went undefeated in SEC play to earn the conference title, and is 26-8 overall. The Raiders also clinched the Section 1AAA title by getting revenge on Owatonna for being knocked out by the Huskies in the section finals last season.

Heading into this weekend’s individual section championships, Forest Lake junior James Pleski is the lone state-ranked Ranger. He is ranked No. 2 at 138 pounds. Senior Seth Gross of Apple Valley holds the top ranking.

If Pleski qualifies for the state tournament, it would be his fourth appearance. His highest finish came in 2012 when he took fourth place at 113 pounds.

The individual section championships take place Friday and Saturday at Coon Rapids.
