The Forest Lake boys hockey team suffered a heartbreaker at Grand Rapids, where it fell 2-1 following two overtime periods.
The fifth-seeded Rangers and fourth-seeded Thunderhawks faced off in the first round of Section 7AA playoffs on Tuesday night. Both teams remained scoreless after the first period before senior Brett Gravelle gave Forest Lake a 1-0 lead halfway through the second period with a short-handed goal.
Grand Rapids responded early in the third period to even the score, 1-1. Following a scoreless overtime period, the Thunderhawks captured the playoff win with a sudden-death goal at 3:30 in the second overtime.
Senior Jesse Garcia recorded 33 saves.
Forest Lake closed its season at 15-7-4 overall, 11-3-4 in the Suburban East Conference and 4-3 against Section 7AA opponents.
