Cancer benefit

A benefit for Ken Thorson, owner of NCR Import & Domestic in Forest Lake, will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 at American Legion Post 225, 255 W. Broadway. $13 spaghetti dinner, silent auction, raffle, bags tourney.

Pro-life speech contest

High school juniors and seniors are invited to research, write and present a 5- to 7-minute pro-life speech on abortion, infanticide, euthanasia or stem cell research for the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life oratory contest. The Forest Lake chapter will hold the 24th annual contest at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14 in choir room 545 at Forest Lake High School. For application information call 651-464-5260.

Meatballs for mutts

Northwoods Humane Society will hold its annual fund-raiser to support cats and dogs waiting for new homes from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 at the VFW, 556 SW 12th St. Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread stick and dessert, plus silent auction, door prizes, games. Mental health speech

Kevin Breel will speak on reducing the stigma of depression and mental illness at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 21 at the Forest Lake High School auditorium, preceded by a pizza supper and resource fair in the cafeteria at 5:30 p.m.
