Despite fourth place being the highest individual placement recorded by the Forest Lake boys swimming and diving team at the Section 7AA meet on Saturday, the Rangers earned second place overall with 352 points. Anoka claimed the section title with 455.5 points, while Blaine placed third with 347 points.

Forest Lake was also dubbed Section 7AA academic champions.

Junior Grant Taylor will represent the Rangers at the state diving meet. Taylor, a newcomer this year, took fourth place with 332.05 points at Coon Rapids in his section debut.

Ninth-grader Peter Brennhofer, also in his first season, made his way into the diving finals and placed 15th with 210.7 points.

Eighth-grader Ben Chatwin took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.90. Senior Andrew Bowes placed eighth in the event, (1:54.61) while sophomore Brad Youngquist just missed making the finals with a preliminary time of 1:53.92 but competed in the consolation bracket and took 10th overall with a time of 1:53.80. Anoka senior, Cole Birklid, set a new section record in 1:42.71.

Junior Tim Brennhofer placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.52, followed by classmate Michael Palo in fifth (1:06.07). Sophomore Matthew Clayton finished in sixth place (1:06.18), while junior Ryan Bildeaux placed 16th (1:13.92).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Youngquist, Chatwin, junior Corey Bahr and senior Bryan Fleming also recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:31.23. Blaine’s crew set a new section record in the event with a time of 1:29.59.

The same Forest Lake foursome earned fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:25.16. Anoka took first and set a new section record with a time of 3:14.72.

Fleming took another high finish in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.81, followed by Bahr in seventh (23.07) and junior Cameron Parucci in 10th (23.84). Blaine junior Derek Kuecker set a section record with a time of 21.80.

The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Mitchell Clayton, Tim Brennhofer, senior Stefan Albright and sophomore Ethan Herzog placed fifth with a time of 1:47.29. Anoka’s relay squad set a new section record in the event with a time of 1:40.41.

Albright captured another fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.07. Fleming placed seventh in the event (58.78) while Parucci placed 12th (1:02.47).

Chatwin placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.60) while Bowes represented the only senior in the finals with a time of 5:19.20, good for seventh place. Senior Dominick Thompson placed 15th in 5:29.46. Anoka junior Matt Hedman set a pool record in the event with a time of 4:41.15.

Bahr placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.84, followed by Youngquist in ninth (51.93). Mitchell Clayton came in 13th place (53.89) in the event and also recorded a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.59, followed by ninth-grader Duncan Johnson in 10th place in 1:01.47. Senior Jacob Gregorson placed 12th in the backstroke (1:04.15) while Peter Brennhofer placed 14th (1:04.53).

Ninth-grader Duncan Johnson took eighth place in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.27, followed by Tim Brennhofer in 11th (2:13.34) and Palo in 12th place (2:14.36).

Taylor will compete at the state diving competition at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
