St. Olaf College’s Norseman Band will perform at Faith Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 9.

The Norseman Band of St. Olaf College, conducted by Paul Niemisto, will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake.

The 85-piece symphonic band will play both traditional band music and new pieces, including traditional marches and selections by American composers Frank Ticheli and Leonard Bernstein. In observation of the 150th commemoration of the American Civil War, the concert will include Morton Gould’s arrangement of “Yankee Doodle.”

Niemisto, a 35-year veteran at St. Olaf, is founder of the Ameriikan Poijat (Boys of America) Finnish American Brass Ensemble and founder and conductor of Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra. In 2006 he organized the first Vintage Band Music Festival in Northfield, and it will be held for the fourth time in 2016.

Faith Lutheran Church is located at 886 North Shore Drive. A free-will offering will be taken to help pay the band’s transportation expenses.
