The Forest Lake High School speech team narrowly missed winning the Section 7AA tournament on Saturday, March 29 in Grand Rapids. The team tied with Elk River for first place, but lost the tie breaker.
Sarah Gould was section champion in poetry and Garret Swanson in extemporaneous speaking. Both qualified for the state tournament, to be held April 11 and 12 at Blaine High School.
Three other team members also will be competing at state, based on their section performance. Megan Storkan placed second in great speeches. Tommy Brockman took third place in storytelling and Jenny Degenaro captured a third in drama.
Forest Lake had 18 students qualify for the final rounds of competition, the most of any team in the section.
