It was a strong showing for the Forest Lake track team at the Hamline Elite Meet last Friday, where the Rangers sent nine athletes.
The 4×800 relay team of ninth-graders Maria Valentin and Allie Bartlett, sophomore Emma Benner and eighth-grader Caroline Shoessow earned its spot in school history with the second-fastest Forest Lake time of 9:33.73. The foursome placed third at the meet in a field of 12.
Benner also turned heads in the 3,200-meter run, where she placed fifth with a time of 10:52.57, setting the sophomore-and-younger record for the Forest Lake program and earning a United State Track and Field Juniors qualifying mark. Megan Hasz of Alexandria placed first in 10:32.63.
Senior Katie Dison took fifth place in the pole vault by clearing 10-6. Cassidy cleared the same height during a later attempt.
Bartlett took 14th of 16 in the 1,600-meter run with a season-best time of 5:17.32. Anna French of Wayzata took first in 4:56.33.
Next, the girls team travels to Stillwater at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2.
Senior Preston Huddleston was the lone Ranger representing the boys team. The leaper placed 10th with a distance of 20-5 in the long jump. The rest of the squad competed at the Park Invite, where Forest Lake took second place of nine teams with 932.5 points. Mankato West took first with 974.5 points.
The boys team hits the road on Saturday, May 3 for a 10 a.m. start at Rochester Mayo.
