Linwood Township employee Chris Herring is fighting Stage 4 cancer in his jaw. Surgery was completed within a week of his diagnosis in December, and the cancer has not spread to any vital organs, but he is on a rigorous schedule of chemotherapy and radiation.

A number of events have been held or are scheduled with proceeds designated to help Herring with medical bills and other related needs. Linwood Helping Hand has donated gas cards to fund Herring’s travel to treatments.

A garage sale to benefit Herring was scheduled for May 1-2 but has been postponed due to weather.

Forest Lake VFW is hosting a barbeque on Saturday, May 3. Tickets are $10 a plate. Games, drawings, a bake sale and a silent auction will also be held. A non-sanctioned horseshoe tournament is planned. Events start at 9 a.m. and run until 8 p.m.

Donations are being accepted at the VFW (contact Jim Woods at 651-249-1091) or TCF Bank in Forest Lake. For more information, email secondchances2014@outlook.com or search for Herring’s page on www.giveforward.com.
