Forsythe steps down as coach

Forest Lake boys head hockey coach Aaron Forsythe has stepped down from that post after being named the new activities director for Forest Lake Senior High School, effective July 1.

Forsythe said, although the decision was difficult, he feels he made the best choice for the hockey program as well as the programs he will soon be overseeing.

“I knew when I accepted the position that I couldn’t do both,” Forsythe said. “My reason in waiting was to be approved by the school board and I wanted the boys to hear it from me first. ”

Forsythe was at the helm of the boys hockey program for eight years. This season the Rangers went 15-7-4 overall and 11-3-4 in the Suburban East Conference.

“I’m kind of in a unique situation where I’m grasping the idea that I’m done,” Forsythe said. “Hockey has been such a big part of my life and really my identity for a long time. I’m just proud of the kids and the relationships I’ve built over the last 7-8 years.”

Applications for the position are posted until Wednesday, May 21. A new head coach will be named by the end of the school year.
