Golf girls take second at sections

The Forest Lake girls golf team fit in both rounds of Section 7AAA golf between bands of bad weather at Grand National Golf Club in Hinckley last week. 

The Rangers finished in second place with a score of 678. Andover took the title by shooting 663, while Elk River finished in third place at 681. 

Ninth-grader Maddy Messin qualified individually for the state tournament with a combined score of 160. She shot a 79 on day one and an 81 on day two to earn third place overall. Senior Sierra Langlie of Andover earned medalist honors with a score of 147 by shooting 77-70. 

The rest of the Forest Lake crew claimed spots 8-11 to contribute to the runner-up score. 

Sophomore Kate Schaaf shot 172 (85-87), followed by ninth-grader Hannah Kohls with 174, while eighth-grader Maija Tanberg and senior Maggie Jeans tied for with 177. 

Sophomore Heather Claussen also earned her way into the top 20 with a two-round total of 190, good for 19th place. 

Messin will compete the Class AAA state tournament June 10-11 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
