Ninth-grader Maddy Messin represented Forest Lake at the Class AAA state golf tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
Messin tied for 40th place of 88 golfers with a combined score of 169 over the two-day event. Messin shot a 42 on the front nine on day one, then a 43 on the back nine. On day two, the ninth-grader shot a 46, then turned around and upped her game on the back nine with a 38.
Messin had a third-best score of her grade, and was the fourth-best score for state entrants younger than 10th grade. Senior Kenzie Neisen of New Prague captured the state title with a combined score of 135.
On the boys side, Daniel Massey competed for Forest Lake at Bunker Hills. The senior tied for 44th place in a field of 88 with a combined score of 157. Massey shot a 41 on the opening front nine, then a 37 after the turn on day one. On day two, the Ranger shot a 40, then a 39 on the final nine holes.
Massey shot the same combined score of 157 during last year’s state tournament, where he tied for 34th place. Senior Chris Captain of Rochester Century clinched the individual state title by three strokes with a score of 142.
