The Forest Lake Early Childhood Family Education invites the community to a festive celebration at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Central Learning Center (door 11) as it hosts its annual UNscary Halloween party. Cost is $10 per family. Families with children five and under are invited to wear friendly costumes and join ECFE for bouncy tent bouncing, pumpkins, games, prizes and more.
Manufacturing tours offered
Teachers, students, families, and community members are invited to attend the “Minnesota. Dream It. Do It.” Statewide Tour of Manufacturing Oct. 23-25. Guests will have an opportunity to see science, technology, engineering, and math in action and learn about in-demand, high paying jobs in a stable industry. Registration is not necessary, and interested attendees can show up anytime during the listed hours. Forest Lake tour locations include Custom Mold & Design at 22455 Everton Ave. N. and Teamvantage at 20697 Fenway Ave. N. Both are open for tours on Thursday, Oct. 23 and Friday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Trunk or Treat
Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake is hosting a “Trunk or Treat“ event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in the church parking lot. Several area businesses will decorate trunks and hand out candy.
Forest Hills Church will host a Fall bazaar and luncheon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at the church on the corner of Hwy. 97 and Co. Rd. 34. The event will feature crafts, quilts, caramel rolls, beef soup, and a bake sale.
Instrument Petting Zoo
The Forest Lake Area Schools Tri-M Music Honor Society students, in conjunction with Music Connection are putting together a performance and Instrument Petting Zoo scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 26. Cantorei, Sinfonia Orchestra and Symphonic Winds will perform a short concert of spooky tunes in the main gym. Afterward, the kids in the audience are invited to go to the cafeteria where they will have the opportunity to try out many of the instruments they heard in the concert.
The Forest Lake Area Schools music departments will present a BIG Sing concert event at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Forest Lake High School. The free event will feature singers from each school in the district.
Speech teams seek members
Interested seventh, eighth and ninth graders at Century or Southwest schools are invited to become members of the speech team. There will be an informational meeting held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Century Junior High in the Media Center. Those attending the meeting will learn what speech team is and where competitions are held. Interested students can access www.centuryspeech.weebly.com for more information.
For the last two years, the Century Junior High Speech team has captured the first place trophy and many medals and blue ribbons at the conference meet.
Trunk or Treat
Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Forest Lake is hosting a “Trunk or Treat“ event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 in the church parking lot. The event will feature candy, treats, and a bonfire for roasting marshmallows.
The Maranatha Assembly of God Church will host a Halloween Stop event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 at 24799 Forst Blvd. on Hwy. 61 between Forest Lake and Wyoming. The event is billed as a fun, safe, healthy night for kids and families. There will be inflatables, games, and candy. $2 entry fee. For more information, call 651-464-3131
Pumpkin pick up
Forest Lake residents are asked to put their pumpkins on the curb with the candles and other decorations removed Nov. 1 as North Lakes Academy freshman Collin Weigman will be picking them up as part of a service project. Pick up will begin at 10 a.m. Weigman will properly dispose of pumpkins and compost them to save space in landfills.
