Forest Lake Park and Recreation Coordinator Nicole Schossow announced her resignation from her city position on Dec. 26. Her last day will be Jan. 9.

In her resignation letter to City Administrator Aaron Parrish, Schossow made it plain that the reason she was resigning was due to the recent city budgeting decisions regarding her position. In its split decision to cut funding from its 2015 general fund budget, the Forest Lake City Council voted to keep the park and recreation coordinator job as a full-time position for the first half of the year, reevaluating the job in the summer to see if the coordinator’s success in grant writing and procuring of other financial benefits was sufficient to justify keeping the position at a full-time level. If the coordinator was deemed as not worth the city expenditure, the job would have been cut to part-time, which is what it was before Schossow was hired in spring of 2014.
