The Scandia-Marine Lion’s Club had a special guest at the Oct. 22 meeting. Dr. Rebecca Bergman was introduced by Dr. Laura Triplett, a geology professor at Gustavus Adolphus College-Saint Peter and daughter of Lion Tom Triplett.
Bergman, the president of Gustavus, spoke to the group after spending the afternoon visiting the Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia. In her remarks she referred to Gammelgarden as “a real treasure.” She listed four principles for students at Gustavus Adolphus which included asking questions, creating solutions, transforming lives, and serving the common good.
Dr. Bergman also stressed that their students need to think in terms of possibilities rather than scarcity, harbor a mindset of service and giving with a joyful heart, and always do the right thing to develop character. She felt that she did the right thing when she changed from a career with medical device company Medtronic to becoming a college president.
