According to the Minnesota State Demographic Center, it is estimated that 60,047 students will graduate from high school in the state in 2016. Of those graduates, only one has been accepted to the Coast Guard Academy: Hunter Shortly, from Forest Lake.

“It’s a big deal to me to be able to be the one person to not only represent my state, but also Forest Lake,” Shortly said. “I feel very proud to have been deemed good enough to be accepted to the academy.”
