Ranger golfer ties for Regional title

Charlie Leonhart of Marine on St. Croix tied for first in the Regional Finals of the Drive, Chip & Putt competition at Chaska on Sept. 10. Leonhart, an eighth-grader at Century Junior High and a member of the Forest Lake golf team, scored 122 points (42 drive, 45 chip, 35 putt) to equal the score of Kaeden Nomm of Mincoqua, Wisconsin. Nomm won the putting tiebreaker to claim a spot at the National Championships at next year’s Masters in August, Georgia.

Local 4-H’ers compete in state shoot

Students from Forest Lake and Wyoming competed with the Washington County 4-H team at the State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational in Alexandria on Sept. 9 and 10. Kendall Tinklenberg of Wyoming was the busiest local shooter, leading the junior BB gun team to a fifth-place finish with a score of 224. Tinklenberg also shot a 61 for the 11th place three-position air rifle team and scored 189 points for the fifth-place junior archery team, which also included Anna Gierke of Forest Lake (121). In the intermediate .22 rifle competition, Rebecca Crain of Wyoming was joint-top scorer (86) for Washington County’s second-place squad. Anyone interested in learning more about local 4-H opportunities can attend an open house in Hooley Hall at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Stillwater on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.
