The fourth-grade Forest Lake Lynx girls basketball team completed an undefeated season with a buzzer-beating win over the Scandia/Wyoming Mystics on Feb. 13. Trailing by one point with just seven seconds remaining, Elaina Syring stole the ball and drove the length of the court, where she found Izzy Blahowski to sink the winning basket for a one-point victory.

“Obviously, I’m proud of our record, but I’m most proud of the girls for how they played,” head coach Jeff Klein said. “They had fun, respected the game and each other, and just got it done.”

The win over the Mystics moved the Lynx’s final record to 9-0, though each of their nine victories came by a single-digit margin. With no blowouts on their resume, the champions of the league simply found a way to win every time they took the floor.

“I knew early on how lucky I was to have a group like this, from player one through 10,” Klein said. “They all listen and learn well and seem to have a lot of fun, so it was extremely rewarding for me as a coach. To know that I could throw any combination of five kids out there together that get along with each other and perform is a rarity. I’m beyond proud of them.”
