Lake Association annual meeting
The Forest Lake Lake Association will host its annual meeting April 20 from 6:15 to 8 p.m. at Stella’s on 97.
Leukemia benefit
The Forest Lake VFW will host a Jammin’ for Jace benefit April 22 from three to 10 p.m. featuring kids games, face painting, a silent and live auction, a DJ, and a bake sale. There will also be a spaghetti dinner with a cost of $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
Turf management education session
A class titled “Turf Care Truths and Tips, Management for a Healthy Watershed” will be offered free at the Comfort Lake Forest Lake Watershed District office, 44 Lake St S., April 25 and 26 and May 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a half hour of questions and answers to follow. The event is hosted by Master Watershed Steward Jack Mackenzie.
Childrens garage sale
The Early Childhood Family Education program will hold its annual garage sale on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at Forest Lake Century Junior High School, 21395 Goodview Ave. N. The sale will include infant and children’s clothing, toys, books, baby equipment and maternity clothes. Admission is $1. Call 651-982-8300 for more information.
Get hired teen event
The Lakes Center for Youth and Families will host a get hired event for April 27 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Central Learning Center at 200 SW 4th Ave. Teens will learn how to find a job and get tips on how to successfully fill out an application, create a cover letter and resume, understand soft skills, and learn how to interview. They will also have the opportunity to meet with local businesses that hire youth. Previous businesses have included Express Employment, Famous Dave’s, Perkins, GAP, Taco Bell, and more.
Pancake fundraiser
The Forest Lake Masons will host a pancake and sausage breakfast to benefit MOST FL April 30 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 119 8th Ave. SE. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for kids.
Alzheimer’s education
Fairview Health Services will host an Alzheimer’s education session at Cherrywood Pointe, 231 W. Broadway Ave., titled “Act in Love” May 4 at 1 p.m. Jenna Rodewald from Volunteers of America, will introduce Validation Therapy, a proven caregiving technique that teaches people to listen with empathy and helps them to understand and respect loved ones with dementia and communicate in a loving manner.
Garden plots available
Garden plots will be available in the community garden at Crossroads Covenant Church, 17445 Notre Dame St. NE, beginning on or around May 15. Plots are first come, first served. For more information, contact Diane at [email protected] or 651-462-1529.
Alzheimers education
Fairview Health Services will host an alzheimers education session at Cherrywood Pointe, 231 W. Broadway Ave., titled “Dementia in Action” June 13 at 2:30 p.m. This session will be a simulation of symptoms typically associated with aging and dementia.
Pond dipping
Join East Metro Water Resource Education representatives June 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. and dip nets into the water to catch a closer look at the creatures that live in the lake and what they tell us about how clean our water is. Wear outdoor play attire and be prepared to take an easy hike along paved trails. This event is free and open to all ages. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.
