Scandia Elementary’s Destination Imagination team, Techno Perfecto, took fourth place out of 11 teams at this year’s Destination Imagination Minnesota Affiliate State Tournament April 22 at Jackson Middle School in Champlin. During the Regional Tournament Central Challenge that got it to state, Techno Perfecto had to build a stage and transfer a team member across it, design an opening act and a headlining act, and incorporate technical effects while staying within a $200 budget. This all had to be completed within an eight minute time period. The team designed a scissor lift with a hydraulic jack to lift a team member 15 inches off the ground.
Techno Perfecto added a few improvements to its challenge from the regional tournament, but the majority of its solution stayed the same. The top three teams move on to Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. Techno Perfecto was considered a Global Finals alternate but did not get called up to attend. Completing the season at state were fourth-graders Kaylee Robinson and Carolyn Crum; fifth-graders Andrew Jensen, Evan Wood and Bella Plummer; and sixth-graders Josie Clemens and Michael Huss.
