The Forest Lake Area Community Scholarship Foundation has concluded its 44th consecutive annual scholarship cycle with record results. Since July 2016, Forest Lake Area donors have contributed a record $180,200 to be distributed as scholarships to applicants qualified for CSF general scholarships, named scholarships or scholarships awarded to individuals referred from community service agencies. In the 2017 scholarship cycle, CSF awarded 115 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

The generosity of Forest Lake Area donors is astonishing. CSF Vice President Joe Lefto has commented that CSF donors represent strategic philanthropy at its finest level, in that donors may never know their beneficiaries or experience the bright and prosperous futures of either recipients or the communities in which they may ultimately reside. Yet, CSF donors continue to support the CSF mission to assist Forest Lake Area residents seeking to advance their educations.

CSF treasurer Laura Jackson consistently reminds the CSF board that all dollars donated to CSF are awarded as scholarships in the scholarship cycle in which they are contributed, and that at the beginning of every scholarship cycle, CSF begins with no awardable revenue. CSF depends absolutely on the continuing loyalty of its present donors and actively seeks new donors to continue and to advance its community mission.

With the ongoing support of the Forest Lake community, the Forest Lake Area Community Scholarship Foundation looks forward to the inevitable challenges of the coming 2018 scholarship cycle in continuation of its historical service.

We challenge our Forest Lake Area School District Community to join in and help FLACSF to award $250,000 each scholarship cycle. We challenge school reunion committees to ask reunion attendees to make a pledge. We challenge businesses, civic and fraternal organizations find out more about FLACSF through a presentation by our board members. And we will challenge ourselves to continue to be a trustworthy organization responsive to our donors and assisting students.

And, finally, one more appreciative “Thank you!” to all our donors who give so generously and so regularly. You are helping to create the future by supporting students. Take a bow.
