The amazing park race
1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 5
Just like the “Amazing Race” television show, there will be puzzles to solve and activities to complete to get clues that will help guests in the race. The team that finishes all the activities first and arrives at the pit stop will be the winner. Prizes will be given. There are a limited number of teams allowed, so call the main park office at 651-433-0500 to sign-up. Guests can meet at the Riverside Amphitheater in the picnic grounds.
Universe in the park
8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 11
The University of Minnesota Astronomy Department will take guests on a tour of the night skies. After a short talk on the evening skies, guests will move outside to view some of these celestial sights through telescopes. The moon, planets and more will be discovered on this night in the park. Guests can meet at the visitor center.
Perseid meteor shower
7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 12
Dwight Wilcox, professional storyteller, will tell stories of the night, and amateur astronomer Kenny Bahmer will allow guests to use his 10-inch telescope. A marshmallow roast will follow the programs. Bring a blanket or chair and meet at the visitor center.
Bluegrass concert
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25
Neighbors, campers, and day visitors are invited to enjoy an evening in the meadow by the visitor center for a modern bluegrass concert. Special guests Blue Hazard will bring their fiddles, mandolins, and stand-up bass to William O’Brien State Park for a concert in ArtReach St. Croix’s new Mobile Art Gallery. Guests can bring a blanket or camp chair to enjoy the show. After the music, the musicians will be available for a meet and greet.
