Feathered friends
1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 21
Wargo Nature Center,
7701 Main St., Lino Lakes
Guests can join a Wargo naturalist to discover more about birds, learn how to set up and use binoculars, and learn how to identify birds and their calls. The event will include a hike to observe the sounds of the birds around the nature center. This program is best suited for children ages 5 to 9, but all ages are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. A limited number of binoculars and bird guides are available. The event cost is $5 per person.
Little goblins costume party
6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27
Wargo Nature Center,
7701 Main St., Lino Lakes
This event will feature a variety of themed carnival games and crafts. Refreshments will be provided, and kids can take a photo with a special photo backdrop. Wargo Nature Center staff will lead flashlight hikes to look at the stars. Parents/guardians are encouraged to dress in their favorite costume as well. All costumes must be family appropriate. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Children ages 8 years and younger are welcome. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $8 per child. Adults are free.
Family wilderness survival basics
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4

Guests will learn about safety in the outdoors, discuss myths and facts about dangers in the backcountry, and get some hands-on experience with building shelters. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5 per person.
Fresh cheese making
1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 4
Wargo Nature Center,

Guests will be taken through the cheese-making process and introduced to the ingredients and skills needed to make fresh cheese at home. Pre-registration is required. Minors must be accompanied by a registered adult. The cost is $25 per person.
Lunch with a naturalist
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 8
Wargo Nature Center,

Guests can bring a lunch and join a naturalist for a presentation to include local natural history information and a stroll on the trails at Wargo. Any equipment that may be needed will be provided. Pre-registration is not required.
DIY natural body products
1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11
Wargo Nature Center,
7701 Main St., Lino Lakes
Guests will spend time discussing useful properties of common plants and the basics of how to incorporate them into homemade body products. Event attendees will use newly-made body lotion, headache salve, and lip balm. Participants will take home a gift set of all three products. Pre-registration is required. Cot is $20 per person.
Fall night hike
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18
YMCA Camp Heritage,
7732 Main St., Lino Lakes
Guests can explore the nighttime world and some of the Minnesota animals that frequent it. This event will feature a nighttime trek around the Heritage Lab property to listen for owls and look at the stars. Guests should bring a flashlight and dress for the weather.
