Late April is typically the start of the yard-work season. Warming weather stirs the itch to be outside, Earth Day events promote green thumbs, and sites for compost and yard waste open. The last of those may not be happening in Forest Lake this spring, though.

For the first time, the city of Forest Lake has a full-time employee to oversee parks, trails and recreation. The City Council on Monday approved the hiring of Nicole Schossow as park and recreation coordinator.
