Scandia barn fire damage is $125,000
21110fire.jpgA pole barn fire in Scandia late Thursday afternoon resulted in $125,000 in damages, Fire Chief Jim Finnegan said.  Scandia Fire and Rescue was called to the Richard Rheinbuch home at 12920 Mayberry Trail N. at 3:45 p.m. Finnegan called in mutual aid help from Forest Lake and Marine on St. Croix to provide manpower and water hauling capacity. The building was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, he said. The blaze destroyed a Ford Model A car, three antique tractors and a 35-foot travel trailer. The barn was also a total loss. Finnegan said the fire started when a Case model steer-skid backfired, igniting hay bales in the barn. Finnegan said firefighters were able to save six antique tractors and another antique car that were in another part of the pole barn separated by a wall. Here, Forest Lake firefighter Dan Bothman sprays one of the antique tractors that was lost in the blaze. Some 50 firefighters were on scene for more than two hours. No injuries were reported. GMA comes filming in Wyoming
21110gma.jpgThe media frenzy over the "Miss Me Yet?" George Bush billboard on I-35 continued this week as a film crew from ABC's Good Morning America was in Wyoming. A five-member crew led by reporter Barbara Pinto of ABC news worked on their sign story. Pinto interviews Wyoming Mayor Sheldon Anderson here during a stop at the Cornerstone Pub and Prime. Anderson, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run for the House District 17B seat this fall, told Pinto he doesn't know for sure who paid for the sign but believes a group of Republican business owners from the Twin Cities have paid the bill for the freeway billboard. The ABC crew, looking for opinions from the community, also dropped in at Russell's Barber Shop in Wyoming where shop owner and barber Shane Brown and a customer were interviewed. The Good Morning America story could air as early as Friday morning on KSTP Channel 5, but the exact air time was not available on Thursday. (Photo By Cliff Buchan)
