By
all accounts, the Rotary Club’s first-ever “Gettin’ Cold for a Cause”
Winter Plunge was a bone-chilling hit. A big crowd turned out on the
ice off Lakeside Memorial Park Saturday to watch about 325 brave souls
representing 37 groups plunge into the frigid waters. In all, the
non-profits raised over $85,000. Organizers are already committing to
making the plunge an annual event.
Voted best costume prizes were: Cindy Mattson (female category), Chance Norby (male) and the Lino Laptop Lunatics (group).

Charlotte Ihrke and Brenda Zelinka play the role of frog, zebra and

The scene might as well have been from a Hollywood hit. The rare wolf
on the loose led a mob of police officers, animal caretakers and
volunteers on a wild chase through backyards and across major
thoroughfares. A news station helicopter swirled overhead as the
exhausted animal was finally netted, tranquilized and sent back to her
sisters in captivity.
The three-year-old Mexican gray wolf that was on the run for about 80 hours, right, seemed right at home with one of her sisters at the Wildlife Science Center last Friday.

It might be an overstatement to say the Forest Lake Area Athletic
Association (FLAAA) was victorious in inking a management agreement to
care for the community’s newest sports fields. FLAAA requested a four-year contract, but got half that length when the
Forest Lake City Council unanimously approved the agreement during its
meeting on Monday.

compound Sunday night, pried open a wolf enclosure and set loose three
rare Mexican gray wolves.
By Monday night, two of three female
sisters had been recaptured. The third wolf has not been caught but has been seen in the area
of Coon Lake to the west of the WSC in Columbus.
