Friends rally to help Scandia man

12108scandia.jpgWhen John Morrison’s friends learned in November that John’s supply of cut heating wood was running short, they turned out in big numbers for a day of wood cutting that set the Scandia man for winter. Morrison is on medical leave from his job as city works supervisor in Scandia while taking cancer treatments. The wood cutting day was arranged by members of Scandia Fire and Rescue with a good number of other area residents turning out to help. Adults and kids pitched in to get the job done in about four hours. Morrison is also a member of the fire department. His children have been doing the wood cutting chores, but got some big help with the day of volunteer work.

Community service marked Bud Robinson’s life in FL

1238bud.jpgA fire truck will lead Bud Robinson’s funeral processional on Friday.

It’s a fitting tribute for a man who served his community in so many ways, said Forest Lake Fire Chief Gary Sigfrinius. Robinson, who was a firefighter for 31 years, died at Birchwood Health Care Center here on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Bud Robinson of Forest Lake enjoyed his striking resemblance to Col. Harlan Sanders,  the fried chicken king. During the 1970s, Robinson joined the Forest Lake 4th of July parade  as "The Colonel," and directed the Forest Lake German Sitting Band.
