Graduates walk halls of FLHS one last time

Rangers win consolation title at state softball

Forest Lake won the consolation bracket of the state softball tournament Friday afternoon in Mankato. The Rangers took out Prior Lake 4-3, storming back for three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sammy Holien hit a one-out single to score Taylor Burmeister for the winning run. Burmeister drove in the tying runs with a single earlier in the inning.

Mountain makers in Forest Lake
6910bridge.jpgThe mountain makers who have been building the earthen structures that will carry the new CR-83 (SW 11th Ave.) bridge span over I-35 in Forest Lake have been hard at work. The earthen structure on the west side of I-35 leading to Everton Avenue is now taking shape as the photos here indicate. Above, a side-dump from Forest Lake Contracting deposits its load at the top of the rise with some help from a bull dozer.  On the east side of the freeway, detours on CR-83 and Eureka Avenue (the Clear Lake frontage road) remain in place. No criminal charges in golf course incident
There will be no criminal charges stemming from a May 16 incident in Forest Lake where a woman fishing in a canoe was struck in the head with a golf ball. After a review of the case, Michael Welch, prosecutor for the city of Forest Lake, has ruled there is “not probable cause” to charge as an assault.

How to save old water company building?

6910hilltop.jpgSomeone should save it, but it may not be the city of Scandia. If you’ve visited Scandia for lunch, you’ve probably parked near the green Hilltop Water Company building—it’s located just northeast of the Scandia Café. It serves as the cover for a private, non-municipal well that serves 21 users south of Scandia Trail.

Board modifies cuts, OK’s new budget
A school budget for the 2010-2011 year is now on the books. The new budget, adopted by the school board last Thursday, reflects a series of budgets approved earlier this year.

But the new school budget also reflects one six figure change from the spending cuts approved by the board.

Dressed for her day on the farm
6910farmc.jpgA large crowd turned out Sunday for the annual Daninger family Autumnwood Dairy Farm/City Day in Forest Lake.  Emily Haglund, 8, of Cambridge, left, enjoyed the pig roast and was all decked out in a straw hat, perfect for her day on the. More than 800 people were served food during the pig roast with the dinner raising just over $1200 for agriculture scholarships. A special guest at the farm/city day was Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Elizabeth Olson of Hutchinson. The day included dairy barn and creamery tours and a chance to see young livestock.
