LAYSB’s Forest Lake Youth Advisory Board teens have received a
mini-grant from HandsOn Twin Cities to provide assistance in stocking
Family Pathways’ Forest Lake Food Pantry.
Come out and visit the teens this Friday, Sept. 10 from p.m. at Walmart
in Forest Lake, 200 SW 12th St., where they will hold a Food Pantry
Donation Drive!

Since Marketplace Foods shut its doors for good back in February of this year, the building has sat vacant. After brokering a deal, Family Pathways in Forest Lake will become the
new occupants at 935 S. Lake St. The non-profit organization is
headquartered in Cambridge.

At the Aug. 23 meeting of the Forest Lake City Council, they adopted
two ordinances regulating alcoholic beverages provided by social hosts,
and prevention and removal of graffiti.
According to statistics reported by Police Chief Clark Quiring, 80
percent of 13 to 20-years-old have consumed alcohol in their home or in
somebody else’s. In recent weeks, he said they’ve had at least two
instances when police were called to a residence where underage
drinking was occurring.

It was back to school at the University of Minnesota for sophomore Katie Miron of Hugo, but it was no taking it easy for the past two weeks. Miron, a Forest Lake High School graduate and the daughter of Fran and Mary Ann Miron of Hugo, was on a hectic schedule following her coronation as the 57th Princess Kay of the Milky Way on Wednesday, Aug. 25. As nearly 1700 students were welcomed back to Forest Lake High School
this week, there’s a good chance that as many as 90 won’t be in class,
at least not all of the time.
Thanks to a new and expanding online course offering, an estimated 90
students are expected to take online courses, Principal Steve Massey
told the school board on Thursday, Sept. 2.

The city of Forest Lake is getting an exciting addition to its web site and local businesses are invited to participate.
Production is underway on a Video Tour Book that consists of six
one-minute streaming videos highlighting the best the city has to offer
its residents, visitors and businesses. Topics include: Quality of
Life, Education, Parks, Recreation and Things to Do. The videos should
be available for viewing on www.ci.forest-lake.mn.us, the city’s
official web site later this fall.
