Buddy Poppy Days May 15-16
This week marks Buddy Poppy Days in Forest Lake. Members of Veteans of Foreign Wars Post 4210 and Auxiliary Unit 4210 will be out in force at a number of local stores seeking donations from the public for the annual fund-raising drive which takes place today (Thursday) and Friday. Funds raised from Buddy Poppy Days will go to veterans’ assistance programs.
 
Central Montessori hosts lemonade stand to fight childhood cancer
Forest Lake Montessori students will make a difference in the lives of children with cancer, including one of their own, Andrew Barrows, by hosting an Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Thursday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church. 

The stand will be held in honor of Andrew, and has already set a goal of raising at least $1,500. Those in attendance will honor all children battling cancer with a balloon release at the conclusion of the event.

‘Mousetrap’ will keep you on the edge of your seat

The cast of "The Mousetrap" will have you on the edge of your seat. The Forest Lake High School spring drama department production continues this Friday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

FLHS band celebrates 80 years of music on May 13

It all started with a man, his clarinet, and a dream to create an accomplished high school band.

Wyoming Council OK’s Xccent deal
Wyoming City Council gave its stamp of approval to Xccent, L.L.C and Xccent, Inc. by approving the development agreement between the company and the city on Tuesday, April 29. The company move to Wyoming should be a boost to local jobs, in the short term for construction, and in the long run for a growing company, leaders said.

Linwood Town Board reviews 2007 audit

David Mol of HLB Tautges Redpath, Ltd. explained  results of the 2007 audit for Linwood Township that says Linwood complies with accepted practices and laws related to its operation.

Suggestions presented to the town board on April 22 include more segregation of financial duties, to minimize risk of errors and fraud.  However, as much as possible in the township office, one person opens mail, another writes receipts, checks are stamped “for deposit only,” and deposited by the treasurer.

Gambale guitar clinic in FL May 14
Australian jazz fusion guitarist Frank Gambale will present a guitar clinic at The Music Connection in Forest Lake, 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 14. The free educational session is part of Yamaha’s Acoustic Guitar Tour. There will be a pre-clinic meet and greet autograph session at 5 p.m. Although there is no cost to attend, seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling The Music Connection at 651-464-5252, or on-line at www. ConnectWithMusic.com. Gambale was student of the year when he graduated from The Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, where he taught for several years.  He is renowned for his technique known as “sweep picking.” He recorded and toured with Jean-Luc Ponty, and has recorded five albums and won a Grammy Award with keyboardist Chic Corea. His discography lists over 40 recordings with many of the music industry’s most respected musicians.
