At 6 p.m. on Friday, April 11, the racing will finally begin at Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus.
Horses started arriving at the brand new facility (I-35 and HWY 97, Exit 129) on March 28, with time trials getting underway when the weather allows. Live races will take place every weekend, beginning April 11 - July 6.
Running Aces is a 5/8 mile state-of-the-art purpose-built harness racetrack. In addition, there will be a 50 table card room, with 25 poker tables and 25 tables for casino games, such as Player Pool 21 (Blackjack), Caribbean Stud Poker, Let it Ride and Pai Gow Poker.

Slowly but surely the names that once marked Forest Lake’s downtown business district are vanishing.
Tire shop owner Reub Engler is gone. Movie theater owner Bob Drummond has passed. Insurance company owner Sharkey Anderson and grocery store owner Ray Houle are gone. So is drug store owner Tom Rolseth.

The Forest Lake High School Wind Band will participate in a European concert and cultural study tour March 28 to April 12.
The itinerary will include Germany, Austria and Italy with performances and visits to the cities and surrounding areas of Frankfurt, Munich, Salzburg, Venice and Florence.
The Forest Lake High School Band leaves Friday, March 28 for a concert tour in Europe.

Two-year wage and employment agreements with top administrative positions and coordinators were approved by the ISD 831 School Board on Thursday, March 6.
The settlements, which were approved by 7-0 votes of the school board, close out the negotiation process with all employee groups for the current contract cycle, Superintendent Lynn Steenblock said.

The Wyoming Police Department will get a new squad car as part of budgeted departmental purchases. However, council members approved the purchase as a marked squad car, instead of an unmarked one.
Acting Police Chief Scott Dexter presented the request to the council explaining the need to replace the 1999 Ford Crown Victoria. It is important to order the car early to get orders in for the state bid. The build date will be the end of March.
