When Erin Eagen vaulted off the diving board at the state tournament last week, she performed as though she had been there before.
She had. The Forest Lake senior took second overall in her second straight state appearance.

Annie Berner’s teammates have her back as she signs on to play Division I basketball at the University of Rhode Island. The 6’4” center emerged as a force in the post last season. “Annie is an outstanding student-athlete who understands the importance of hard work and dedication both on and off the basketball floor,” says Forest Lake coach Jen Wagner. “She is a difference-maker and will continue to have much success next year at Rhode Island.”

MIke Schultz has committed to play baseball at Mankato State University. Schultz, shown with Ranger coach Brian Raabe and parents Tara and Dave, received a scholarship and may be used at catcher or outfielder as a freshman at the prestigious Division II program.
“It’s a good school and a winning program,” the senior said. “I just had a good experience down there, and really liked it.”
The Mavericks made Schultz a top priority, and he chose to sign early rather than wait out other offers.
“This is going to be a nice fit for him,” Raabe said. “As one of their top prospects, he’ll have every opportunity to succeed.”

If there was one team that the Forest Lake hockey girls did not want to
face to open the season against, it would have been
Proctor/Hermantown/Marshall. The Rails knocked the Rangers out of the playoffs the last two seasons,
winning 3-1 in 2007 and 1-0 this February. Coming off a 20-5-2 season,
the visitors were a tall task for first-year coach Jeff Neidt’s Forest
Lake squad on Saturday.
