State tourney ends with consolation co-championship

Mother Nature announced her arrival at last week’s state softball tournament in Mankato, and her mere presence caused the Minnesota State High School League to adjust and alter its original schedule.
 

WINDING UP, WINDING DOWN: At last week’s state softball tournament, Alyssa Dunrud and the Forest Lake Rangers fought through a six-run deficit to beat Hastings in the consolation semifinals, 7-6.  

Next spring, perhaps Dusty Boyer should set a goal of winning the state tennis championship and then see what happens.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS: At last week’s state tennis tournament, Dusty Boyer came back from a first-round loss to win two in a row and reach the consolation finals.

In less than a minute, they went from the best of times, to their worst of times.

GANG OF ONE: A total of three Forest Lake boys pushed themselves to the medal stand at the state track and field meet, with Dalton Keep’s sixth-place finish in the 200 meters being the top performance.

As it turned out, improved play and lower scores on the second day of the boys state golf tournament weren’t enough for Forest Lake to climb out of the 10-stroke hole it created on Day 1.

Near the conclusion of the girls state track and field meet, it would be Taylor Brett who would grab all of Forest Lake’s five points, with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

For the Forest Lake baseball team to get through the Section 7AAA playoffs last Tuesday in Cambridge, the Rangers had to defeat both Duluth Central and Duluth East in the same afternoon, but it proved to be one Duluth too many.

WIN SOME, LOSE SOME: After Forest Lake and starter Matt Zidar defeated Duluth Central in last Tuesday’s early game, the Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs by Duluth East, 5-0.
