In less than a minute, they went from the best of times, to their worst of times.

As it turned out, improved play and lower scores on the second day of the boys state golf tournament weren’t enough for Forest Lake to climb out of the 10-stroke hole it created on Day 1.

Near the conclusion of the girls state track and field meet, it would be Taylor Brett who would grab all of Forest Lake’s five points, with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

For the Forest Lake baseball team to get through the Section 7AAA playoffs last Tuesday in Cambridge, the Rangers had to defeat both Duluth Central and Duluth East in the same afternoon, but it proved to be one Duluth too many.

WIN SOME, LOSE SOME: After Forest Lake and starter Matt Zidar defeated Duluth Central in last Tuesday’s early game, the Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs by Duluth East, 5-0.

The digital photo finish camera at Running Aces couldn’t separate the meet’s two top trotters Sunday afternoon when they deadlocked in the weekly $4000 Class A event.  

To really appreciate what’s earned, there needs to be a little struggle involved — a little drama mixed in with a little doubt, all while overcoming a serious challenge.
