Music stops for dance team

dancerino.jpgForest Lake's dancing season came to a close last weekend at the Section 3AAA tournament, when the girls took seventh place in kick and 10th in jazz. But the news wasn't all bad.

The dance team did pick up Academic All-State Honors, with a combined varsity GPA of 3.46. All but two of the 21 varsity dancers earned either Distinguished Honors (3.6 GPA or higher) or Outstanding Honors (3.00-3.59).

SAME AS IT EVER WAS: Forest Lake secured its fifth straight SEC championship in boys Nordic skiing last Friday, with nine of the 10 members earning all-conference. Postseason begins this Saturday in Hastings

Getting the last weekend in January behind them must have been a relief for the Forest Lake wrestling team.wrestledb_pr.jpg

After hosting No. 2 ranked Hastings on Jan. 25, the boys then took part in the White Bear Lake duals the very next morning.

GETTING SERIOUS: In just his first year of wrestling, Dan Blaser has begun to make an impression in the Suburban East. Last Thursday he picked up an 8-7 decision at 160 pounds, helping Forest Lake win, 38-25.

Sections open at Proctor
Win or lose this Thursday, the girls hockey team finds itself in an interesting situation. Forest Lake’s regular season endedhockeypic(gh).jpg last Saturday with six straight losses (last week brought a 5-0 setback against Cretin-Derham Hall, which followed a 5-0 loss to Stillwater); almost a complete 180 degree difference from the seven consecutive wins the Rangers tore through to open the year. On Feb. 7, the girls begin section play at Proctor, which is the exact same program Forest Lake defeated 4-3 to begin this season. It’s also the team who ended the Rangers’ 2007 playoff hopes. Will this be the start of a run to the state tournament, or another seven-game streak that bookends the one from November?

Ranger swimmers downed by Royals, 90-80

joshswim_pr.jpgIn similar fashion to its  two previous meets, the Forest Lake swimming and diving team was able to look beyond the final score and take note on how they’re improving.

NOT JOSHING AROUND: The past two weeks have been huge for Josh Stomberg, as the senior has knocked off large chunks of time in the 200 freestyle.
